When Sadie Brennan, a Maine antiques dealer, is called to her sister’s estate outside Chicago, she has no idea she’s being pulled into a web of mystery. She is there to help her eight-year-old niece, Savannah, who has entered a trauma-induced state of muteness. But once she arrives in town, Sadie finds herself continually crossing paths with an intriguing bag lady named Ruby, and her life truly becomes a deepening odyssey filled with inexplicable events that verge on miracles and challenge her rationale. Drawn by an irresistible force, Sadie and Savannah are compelled to solve the puzzling enigma of the mysterious homeless woman. The growing collection of clues they gather from a museum, a colorful multi-cultural marketplace, a cathedral, the Chicago slums, and even a cemetery, coalesce into an awe-inspiring revelation of Ruby’s shining identity.
In this magical novel, Mary Summer Rain keeps her readers on the edge of their seats while leading them through a merry, page-turning adventure led by an old woman whose identity and purpose are initially unclear but who eventually proves to be someone far greater than anyone could ever imagine.
Whether Ruby is believed to be an eccentric old woman, an angel, a crazy lady, or someone far greater than these, she will most definitely stretch one’s idea of possibilities and carry the reader into a realm of thought extending far beyond the confines of the proverbial box.

Ruby edition by Mary Summer Rain Literature Fiction eBooks

I think of all the Mary Summer Rain Books, E-Books, I like this book best. Don't get me wrong, she has given all of us tons of wonderful & invaluable health, living, medicinal, spiritual, psychological information in her other books, but I liked this one because it gave me support of the belief of reincarnation, life recycling, the reality of what goes on in the delicate web of life of which we are not aware. Ruby helping drug addicts, the destitute, the prostitutes, giving of herself like a Mother Theresa of the street people. She reminded me of Jesus Christ involving himself with, moving amongst, the "real" common people and not just propping himself above them. Ruby reminded me that it is the responsibility of all of us to help those less fortunate. There is healing magic in helping an elderly woman move her walker through a department store doorway, in hugging a child who has had a bad day, in dropping everything to console a friend who has just lost her one & only grandson. Thank you Mary. Wouldn't it be a wonderful Earth if we all were little Rubys.........

I've read just about everything by this wonderful author but left this little gem for last, well worth the wait. In the 'notes about the author' at the end, it says she's embarking on a new literary project... l'm so excited to find out more. I'm always looking out for new works by Mary Summer Rain, you'll never be bored by any of her works. Highly recommend it!

I have this in paperback as well as on my . Love, love, love this book. Wish Mary Summer rain would wite more
Mary Summer Rain is one in a million!!! She has a way of writing that brings her point across so one will never forget it. I have read all of her books, and am a fan of her non-fiction works especially, but "Ruby" is a priceless gift to her readers!!! Mary brings "Ruby" to life in a way that will inspire the reader to question those 'chance' encounters forevermore!
I am a Mary Summer Rainian. I love her work and use some of the lessons she share in previous books like Spirit Song, Phoenix Rising, Soul Sounds and Bittersweet as a referential point in my own personal life. Ruby is just another layer of icing added to the cake. She is beyond gifted. The Story of Ruby really makes you feel warm and uninspired. Just like No Eyes, I have found another guide in Ruby.
Mary surely outdid herself with this story. Ruby is unforgettable. I didn't want the story to end so I could spend more time with Ruby. What a giving soul she is. The story had me smiling and crying. I won't give the story away but if you read it you certainly won't be disappointed.
I miss this Author. Anything she writes buy it! I have benefitted personally from her sharing of practical and spiritual knowledge. She hit a nerve with this writing as it depicts how we school our "inner child." As always it is expertly written in her style.
I am a HUGE fan of everything Mary Summer Rain has written. Her books have been critically beneficial sustenance for my soul, no exaggeration. I am currently in the process of re-reading all of her work again after 7-20 years of having read them the first time. Her work satisfies the spiritual seeker in me, as well as the educated and analytical part of me that craves accompanying detail for the best clarity. Only two of those books have been in the fiction vein The Seventh Mesa (which I highly recommend also) and Ruby. So it was a challenge for me at first to be just as readily happy with a novel from an author who had previously been "handing me the nuts and bolts".

That being said, with both her her novels, I have since felt that the best way for me to get a feel for the novels' major themes was to have it in story form. Some things are better presented as stories, as any who have read a novel that moved them will understand. Ruby addresses a lot of topics, and for me they all fan out from a simple question which subtly scratched at the back of my mind my whole life, until Mary Summer Rain addressed the question in a few later books where is the feminine in religion?

The major religions of the modern world have utterly removed the feminine importance, and even existence, except for biological continuance. Here we are in a world populated by even more women than men, yet every single major religious figure venerated is unquestionably presented as male. Not only are women conspicuously absent compared the preponderance of male gods and earthly vessels of those gods, but when they are mentioned, it often to show how they erred or caused men to error. It's almost...no, it is...creepy. One could say that male dominance led to the gradual elimination of women from the divinity equation, and one would be right I think. But even more tragically, doing so also exacerbated the problem, flowing down to religious hierarchies where the highest echelons could only be held by men; to the continued domination reflected by, still, lower wages and salaries, and a paltry fraction of presence in leadership positions in business, government, and of course, religious institutions.

However, this book is not about that. It is about the reality despite that. The feminine is a power equal to the masculine, but different. In the nature of the divine, and in the action of the divine in the world, the feminine is alive, well, and smiles with knowing patience as the world remembers.

This book took me on a ride I did not expect perhaps more so than any of Mary's books, and that is really saying something, because although all of her books are simple, they cut into reality's many cloaks people place on it and expose more spiritual and metaphysical reality than I have ever guessed upon beginning to read. The stories that comprise the central story are beautiful, touching, and enlightening. It is journey through the human heart and a poignant exposition of the nature of divinity. It will, like all of Mary Summer Rain's books, grab you in the heart, spirit, and mind, all at once. And lift you.
